Web world
Welcome to Web world!
This month we have
- all you need to know about the future
- free gifts, games and graphics
- an interview with a very special girl
Life in the future
There will be bigger earthquakes, not enough water and no more polar bears when you grow up. Don't worry, it's not all bad! People who are paralysed will be able to walk and robots will do the housework. People who study the future are called futurologists. They tell you what they think the future will be like on two great web sites, the World Future Society and Futurist.
No money needed
You probably don't have much money left after Christmas. No problem! The Free Site is a cool site where you can shop – but nothing costs money! You can win everything from cars to computers, play games and get free graphics.
Lemonade for life
Alexandra Scott is eight years old this month. And she has done more in her short life than most people do in a lifetime. Alex, who comes from the US state of Connecticut but lives near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has cancer. But she hasn't let that stop her from helping other people. Alex has collected more than $100,000 for people with cancer by selling lemonade. And she has her own website, Alex's lemonade. Here she tells Spot on about her life, her lemonade stand and her site.
When did you start raising money for cancer?
I started when I was four. I started doing it because it is a good thing to do. And I thought it would help my doctors find a cure for cancer.
Were you surprised by how much money you could raise?
I didn't know I could raise so much. But I am not really surprised about
how much my stand raises now.
Do you do it all by yourself?
No. I get help from my brothers, mom, dad and friends. Kids in other parts of the US have started their own stands too to raise money for cancer. This summer, we are going to have at least 100 stands in different cities all around the US.
Where is your stand?
My stand is in my front yard. A lot of people come every year to buy my lemonade.
Why did you start your web site?
We started the site because so many people had questions about my lemonade stand.
Do you have something you'd like to say to other kids?
Never give up!
